How I Spent the Two Nights I Wasn’t Sleeping
Several months ago, my cousin asked me if I could make a quilt for her son’s 9th birthday. She gave me those several months’ notice, so I had no qualms about agreeing to the task. In fact, I looked forward to the finished product (if not producing it).
She and I picked out several space-themed fabrics, and she asked me to incorporate part of his current comforter, to which he was very attached. Also, she asked if it would be possible to make a small blanket and pillow for her son’s teddy bear, as well. How cute is that?!
So, two days before his birthday party (and two days after his actual birthday!), I finally set to work. First I “harvested” a section of his old blanket, and re-finished the cut edge so it wasn’t apparent that I’d butchered it. We intended to give his old blanket back.
Then I began cutting squares. And cutting. And cutting… and cutting. And cutting, and cutting, and cutting. Mygosh, that was a lot of cutting. In the end, I had fifty-eight 8½” squares in a variety of patterns. The center of the quilt was a solid panel of the “good” fabric: realistic-looking planets and other celestial bodies.
After cutting all of my pieces, I went to sleep for about two hours, because I had an important errand on all-day-Friday (we had to take one of my cousin’s other sons to an evaluation 90miles away). We returned from that excursion at about 8pm, and I procrastinated a bit more before getting to work piecing the quilt. Finally, by about 6am Saturday, I had produced this:

Oh, and of course, I also made this:

Tomorrow I will tell you how he reacted. That’s a good story. *pleased smile*

Good work Smarmy! That’s a nifty project. I’m working on a Crocheted Dog Sweater for my new baby.

I saw your new puppy, Mr. O! So cute. Does GusGus like her?
I know, Mojo… it’s not exactly building a windowseat, but it’s pretty cool. I guess I like to create things. (No, that does not make me creative.)

I remember the window seat. Pretty cool idea. I’m working on a project of my own at the moment, but I’ve hit a snag and have to wait until my diamond tip drills come in. There’s one small detail I was hoping to “sub out” but I can’t find anyone to do it.
