Thematic Photographic: Patterns
This is my eighth week to participate in Thematic Photographic, a photo meme created by Carmi over at Written Inc.. Each Wednesday Carmi will post a photo and announce the theme, then participants will make related posts on their own blogs, sharing their take on the theme. Here is my take on the theme patterns:

“Floor” ~ Photo Date: December 21, 2004, Charles de Gaulle airport, Paris, France
It was December 21, 2004, and I was sitting in a terminal of Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris, France, waiting to board my flight. I just happened to notice and appreciate the honeycomb-like pattern that the round tiles made of the floor. How could I know as I was snapping this photograph that it would be four days before I would arrive home? For that was the year the US midwest was hit with a massive snowstorm that had airports running out of de-icing spray, flights were stranded on tarmacs for hours, thousands of flights were canceled… it was utter chaos. And American Airlines, in their never-ending efforts to get me home for Christmas, flew me to Detroit and accommodated me there, then on to Minneapolis where they put me up for two nights (of course, I had to endure three canceled flights), then to Chicago where they finally booked me on a Delta flight to get me home. It didn’t occur to anybody with the airline that maybe the reason I couldn’t fly to Little Rock is because Little Rock’s airport was closed due to the weather. But you should see the frequent flyer miles I racked up on that trip! And I had an opportunity to visit the Mall of America while I was in Minneapolis (it’s huge!). I’m a “make lemonade” sort of person.

“Crayons” ~ Photo Date: August 8, 2008 ~ Oklahoma, US
Right then… this is just a staged shot. I’m house-sitting, and you know how nosy people are when they’re left alone in someone’s house. I went snooping (*blush* Yes, I’m a little ashamed.) and found thirteen boxes of 24 crayons and two boxes of 96 crayons in a cabinet. So I grabbed a handful of the smaller boxes and made a rainbow out of the crayons. This photo kind of reminds me of those rainbow snowcones from childhood. I’m not sure why. There’s no such thing as “grey” flavor… is there? And we won’t discuss what the “brown” flavor might be (but we will be glad there isn’t much of it!).

“Fence” ~ Photo Date: August 10, 2008 ~ Oklahoma, US
Today I went photo hunting while I was out shopping. The sawtooth pattern of this fence really caught my eye. Really! I was driving past the neighborhood where this fence stands, and I just had to turn back for it.

“Fringe” ~ Photo Date: August 10, 2008 ~ Oklahoma, US
This sparlky fringe was strung between two light poles in a car lot. It was an Enterprise Rental Car Sales lot, so you may recognize their signature blue and green, with a bit of silver thrown in just because it looks snazzy. Anyway, the streamers made a nifty pattern of criss-crosses, and I loved how the colours of each strand lined up where they crossed over. So I decided to share it with you. I’m lovely.

Yes, you are indeed lovely. And so are these photos. Love the Crayola shot, and the streamers too. And the floor looks like it should be in a gallery rather than an airport. You’re a continuing source of delight and amazement girl… (*searches for the hidden subtext*)
And I’m first this time! I love being your first.

Love the crayon shot - I can nearly smell them. Well done on this weeks theme. Four days in, and I still have nothing!

I know how you feel, Mark… I don’t know why this week’s was so hard for me.

These are terrific shots, especially the crayons and streamers — I’m a shoot it in color kind of gal. All this week I have been noticing patterns in everyday things even around my own house. I guess it proves there is order in chaos!
Hey, and thanks for stopping by for a look at the sunflowers. They are so pretty and they stay in bloom so long.

the crayon photo is just so vibrant…it makes me happy :) i haven’t even posted a pattern photo yet for this week. i need to upload one from another sd card. do most people put up more than one photo for the week’s theme? i always just do one.
August 11th, 2008 at 3:28 am
Some people just do one, some people do several in a single post, and some people do multiple posts throughout the week. I’ve done it each way, depending on the theme, how busy I am with other things (or just how lazy I am), etc.

You should have held some crayons between your lovely toes, now THAT would be a shot!
Still in Okie?
Are there any oil derricks around? That would be a cool shot too!

The crayon photo is incredible! The different angles of the crayons make it so interesting to look at! (Yeah… the colors are superb, too!)
Cheers to some great photos here! And thanks for stopping by my place, too! (I think I will just use exclamation marks all the time! What do you think?!)

Love you patterns! That floor is awesome. FOUR days!?! Wow. I would have been crazy. I think the crayon picture is my favorite, even if it is staged. :)
